The Joys of Loving Your Community

Sunday August 16, 2026 I was honored to be invited to share stories of how rewarding it has been embracing being a community activist. The presentation was held at the Universal Unitarian Church in the Porland Hollywood district.

"As a Portland-based graphic designer, cartoonist and activist who created the first ongoing gay/lesbian-identified African-American comic-strip characters: the Brown Bomber (a teenage superhero) and Diva Touché Flambé (his ageless lesbian partner). Kinnard is gay and African American. His recent book, Ooops…I Just Catharted! Fifty Years of Cathartic Comics, which was published in 2025, was nominated for an Eisner Award in 2026."
